My Revenge

I guess you could say this is an update to my “I’m a Stalker Mom” post that I wrote last week when I found that my daughter decided to quit doing/turning in her math work.  I emailed the teacher regarding the situation without telling my child and had her go to the teacher and ask if she could turn in the work for partial credit.

Thankfully, the teacher was very nice and told my daughter she was allowed to turn in the work for partial credit.  The teacher later emailed me about the situation.  In addition to the missing assignments, my daughter does not test well and the teacher asked if test anxiety was an issue.  I indicated that it is and asked what we could do to resolve the issue.  She responded today indicating that she would start giving my daughter extra problems to try prior to the tests.

The next night, before bed, I sat down with my daughter to go over the assignments that were to be turned in the next day and to tell her about my correspondence with the teacher.  Here is a snipet of the conversation….

Me:  “You missed a page. Go ahead and finish so you can get credit.”

Britt: “Ugh, fine.”

Me: “You know how I was asking about your test taking.  I asked the teacher what we can do to help with your test anxiety.”

Britt:  “You are still talking to her?!”

Me:  “We haven’t spoken, just emailed.  She said she would give you some extra problems to work on to get extra practice to help with the test.”

Britt:  “More work?!  You got me more work?!”

Me:  “Well, I guess.  But I was trying to help you so that you can do better when you test.”

Britt:  “You were not trying to help me.  That isn’t help.  It is more work.  It is revenge.”

Me:  “Revenge?  For what?”

Britt: “I am mean to you.”

Me: “Say that again?  Revenge for what?”

Britt: “I am mean to you.”

I probably should not have been so amused by this, but I found it hilarious.  Normally, my punishment for her being mean is losing a privilege or additional housework.  I should have thought of this sooner; imagine how great their grades could be if I had been doing this all along!

I wouldn’t have been able to keep a straight face after that one, which makes it even harder to be the disciplinarian in that situation.

Interesting conversation. I could very well see having this type of conversation with my children as they get older. More work – I like that line.

That’s hilarious… She must think you’re super cunning!
