Jesus was a Democrat

Back during Obama’s first election, I stopped going to my church. I was actually on hiatus for about three years because I was very irritated with the preacher’s inserting his own political views into sermons. There were other reasons, as well, but this was a main factor.

A lot of the congregation has changed since that time, but there are a few individuals that remain. One of the remaining men spoke during the service and said that we needed to be careful about who we put into office. Apparently there is a very Christian man running for office locally that he felt we should all support because in his words, “He might be up against a Democrat.”

Frankly, I am a Democrat. I am offended by his remark; he is someone that our church looks up to. It got me thinking; I have to believe that Jesus was a Democrat.

I figured that I am not the only person out there that believes that Jesus was a Democrat and I was pleased to find more information on a website, It had some great examples of biblical passages supporting that he was, indeed, a liberal. Below are a few of the passages:

Peacemaking, not War Making:
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. [Matthew 5:9]
Resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. [Matthew 5:39]
I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despite-fully use you, and persecute you; [Matthew 5:44]

Crime and Punishment:
If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to cast a stone at her. [John 8:7]
Do not judge, lest you too be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. [Matthew 7:1 & 2.]

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. [Matthew 5:6]
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy [Matthew 5:7]
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. [Matthew 6:15]

Corporate Greed and the Religion of Wealth:
Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. [Luke 12.15.]
Truly, I say unto you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. [Matthew 19:23]
You cannot serve both God and Money. [Matthew 6:24.]

Love your neighbor as yourself. [Matthew 22:39]
So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you. [Matthew 7:12.]
If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. [Matthew 19:21]

Equality & Social Programs:
But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just. [Luke 14:13 &14.]

Public Prayer & Displays of Faith:
And when thou pray, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret… [Matthew 6:6 & 7]

Individuality & Personal Spiritual Experience:
Ye are the light of the world. [Matthew 5:14]

Warning; I’m A Bad-ass

Earlier this year, my younger brother, Adam, went through a messy breakup. Given the fiery ending to the relationship, we had all hoped he would get his act straight before even thinking about entering another relationship. But, it is his life, and he had other plans. He took a new girl over to meet my parents last week.

I heard about the new girlfriend from my grandma on initially. She mentioned, in passing, while seeing if I had spoken to my mother that my mom was waiting for my brother and his new girlfriend to come up so that he could introduce her. I knew nothing about it and had other things on my mind at the time, so I failed to ask their meeting until yesterday.

My mom came over for dinner and, as we were chatting, I asked what my mom thought of the new girl. My mom did not say a lot other than that she is young. The word young worried me; I could only hope she is legal-the last thing we need is that kind of drama. Luckily, she is. She is twenty. My brother is twenty nine.

My mom went on to say she was nice enough but then kind of chuckled. Apparently, my brother mentioned how nervous the new girl was about meeting our parents. My brother, in an attempt to calm her nerves, told her that my parents were nothing to be scared of-it is his sisters that she needed to worry about.

Initially, I was a little offended, but moments later, I found it pretty funny. Really, my sister and I are two of the more awesome family members and I have never been anything but nice to any of the girls that my brothers brought around which is pretty amazing considering the individuals they have brought around. As far as I can remember, my sister has as well. But apparently, we are some serious bad-asses. I have no idea what this is based on (what have his exes been saying…), but I am pretty sure it gives us free reign to act as we please when we meet her. (Insert evil laugh here.)

Honestly, the girl really doesn’t have much to worry about. The way I see it, she won’t be around for long and our next family gathering won’t be for months. Chances are, she won’t be there given his track record with the ladies. I still thought it was funny.

Trying To Survive The Workday

Today, WB stayed home. This means that I have no one to talk to. On the plus side, I have been pretty productive. On the negative, I have no one to talk to.

Because I am going slightly crazy without anyone to talk to, I am going to just let you know about a few of the random things that are on my mind today. They are in no particular order, but these are pressing issues for me (well, sort of).

1. I really want to join the gym. Planet Fitness is having a good deal; $10 to join and $10 a month. This has been on my to-do list for months now and I think I will finally do it this weekend!
2. I am seriously considering taking banjo lessons. I found a place that teaches, but it is ridiculously far from my home. I am going to have to do some research. I wanna be “pickin’ and grinnin’” soon!
3. Memorial Day Weekend. Thanks to some poor planning, we have no plans. I am torn on what to do, but I am now determined to do something. There are a few fun things going on, so now I have to decide if I want to stay local and do something or if I want to camp/take a trip somewhere.
4. I really need a haircut. My split ends are horrible.
5. Pretty sure my body shuts down at 3pm for scheduled maintenance. This can only be accomplished through caffeine and chocolate; today, I have neither. 

I am sure there is more, but those are the first things that WB is missing out on chatting with me about this afternoon. Guess I am going to go get some water and pray that the next couple of hours pass quickly. Hope your afternoon is fabulous!
